Now you can finally say, “it’s happening”.

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort was formally charged and turned himself in to the FBI this morning. The charge? Conspiring against the United States. In addition to Manafort, Rick Gates, a former Trump campaign official was also charged and then turned himself in.

The 31-page, 12-count indictment against Paul Manafort and Richard Gates focuses on their years as political consultants and lobbyists working with Ukraine.

It alleges that they received tens of millions of dollars for their Ukraine work, and to hide that income, they laundered the money through “scores of United States and foreign corporations, partnerships, and bank accounts.”

It includes details about their lavish lifestyle, that they used money from offshore accounts to pay for mortgages, children’s tuition and home decorating. The indictment says more than $75 million flowed through the offshore accounts, specifically that Manafort laundered more than $18 million and Gates transferred more than $3 million from the offshore accounts.

The 12-count indictment is on “conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts. – CNN

Now this is just the beginning. These charges are not related to the 2016 presidential election. These charges are based on the previous work of Manafort and Gates. But let me ask this: Do you really think that these guys cleaned up their acts while they were on the campaign trail with Trump? If you believe that, I have a Republican tax plan to sell you that will benefit the middle class.

Trump of course was quick to deny any wrong doing. He still assumes that nothing in the special counsel’s work will actually touch him and some how he will get out of this without any damage. That remains to be seen, no matter how unlikely it may be.

Manafort has a long history of being a shady character, perfect for Trump’s world. Check out the video below for a quick refresher on how he came to be so critical to this whole Russia mess.
